Region of Peel offers new Child Development Supports at EarlyON Centres

Brampton, ON. (January 7, 2019) – The Region of Peel has launched a new service called EarlyON Child Development Supports, which is the first of its kind in Peel. Parents and caregivers visiting Peel’s EarlyON Child and Family Centres will now have access to Resource Consultants who can answer questions about children’s development and provide resources and referral recommendations to specialized services.

EarlyON Centres in Peel offer free, high-quality drop-in programs for families with children that are aged six and under. EarlyON Centres support families seeking convenient, accessible, play-based learning activities with their children, as well as the opportunity to connect with other families and to learn more about community resources.

“One of our key priorities with EarlyON Child Development Supports is to provide welcoming, inclusive child development services to all families,” says Suzanne Finn, Director, Early Years and Child Care Services. “We are pleased to offer these important services through our EarlyON Centres.”

The Region of Peel currently provides special needs supports for children attending licensed child care and before and after school programs. Now families can access these supports through drop-in programs offered at EarlyON Centres.

A great deal of learning happens for children before the age of five, so recognizing children’s strengths and abilities and supporting parents around their child’s development early increases the probability of success when they attend school and throughout their life. To support children’s development, the Region of Peel has partnered with Peel Children’s Centre to provide this service in EarlyON Centres.

“We believe that through this service, families will receive the information and connections they need to support their child’s developmental journey,” says Bhupinder Heer, Manager, Clinical Services at Peel Children’s Centre, one of the largest children’s mental health treatment agencies in Canada. “This service will help parents and caregivers feel more confident in their parenting role by building trusting relationships with a variety of resources in the community.”
