The Regional Municipality of Peel
By-law number 6-2024

A by-law to amend By-law 6-2017, titled the “Amended Water System Fees and Charges By-law 2004”.

Whereas the Region operates the Municipal Drinking Water System pursuant to the Ontario Safe Drinking Water Act, 2002, S.O. 2002, c. 32;

And whereas, the Council of The Regional Municipality of Peel on January 26, 2017, enacted By-law 6-2017 respecting the supply of water, the management and maintenance of the Municipal Drinking Water System and the establishment of water rates and charges;

And whereas, section 11 of the Municipal Act, 2001, S.O. 2001, c. 25, provides that the Region has exclusive authority within its geographical boundaries to pass by-laws respecting the production, treatment, storage and distribution of water;

And whereas, section 8 (1) of the Municipal Act, 2001 provides that section 11 shall be interpreted broadly so as to confer broad authority on municipalities to enable them to govern their affairs as they consider appropriate and to enhance their ability to respond to municipal issues;

And whereas, the Council of the Regional Corporation has by resolution adopted on January 11, 2024 authorized that By-law 6-2017 be amended to substitute the rates and charges set out in Schedule A hereto for the corresponding rates and charges set out in Schedule A to By-law 6-2017;

Now therefore, the Council of the Regional Corporation enacts as follows:

  1. Schedule A to By-law 6-2017 is amended to substitute and replace the rates and charges set out in Schedule A attached hereto for the comparable corresponding rates and charges set out in Schedule A to By-law 6-2017.
  2. The WATER BILLS Sections 36, 37, 38, 39, 40 and 41of By-law 6-2017, be deleted and replaced with revised sections 36, 37, 38, 39, 40 and 41 as set out in Schedule A.
  3. This by-law and attached Schedule A outlining rates and charges for water services and activities are hereby adopted and enacted.
  4. Despite the amendment of By-law 6-2017 herein, that the tariff of fees set out in Schedule A to By-law 6-2017, on the day immediately prior to the day this by-law comes into effect, shall continue to apply to fees which became payable prior to the date upon which this by-law comes into effect.
  5. This By-law may be referred to as the “Amended Water System Fees and Charges By-law, 2004".
  6. This By-law takes effect for all accounts rendered on or after April 1, 2024.
