Winter placement for waste bins
Keep waste collection bins out of the path of snow plows
Always set your waste bins 1 m (3 ft.) from the road or curb after a snowfall. This gives snow plows enough room to pass.
A bin placed too close to the road could get hit or crushed by a snow plow. It could also get knocked over by snow being pushed to the side of the road.
Report any damage caused by snow plows. Damaged bins will be fixed or replaced free of charge.
If a snow plow partially buries your bin, your waste items should still be collected.
Bin placement after a snowfall
Help make sure that your waste is collected by:
- Keeping your bins off and away from snowbanks.
- Clearing a flat spot at the bottom of your driveway or at the curb, then setting your bin in this spot without blocking the road or sidewalk.
- Placing any excess, bagged waste on the ground, approximately 1 m (3 ft.) away from your bin.
