Pandemic planning
Peel Long Term Care Pandemic Influenza Plan – 2012
The Peel Long Term Care Pandemic Influenza Plan - 2012 * was developed to guide long-term care staff in their response to a pandemic influenza in their community or centre.
The Plan:
- Corresponds to the national, provincial and local pandemic responses and reflects current scientific knowledge and planning principles.
- Is part of a comprehensive Emergency Plan for each of the Region of Peel’s Long Term Care Centres.
- Was developed by Peel Long Term Care with support from expert resources.
Since Pandemic planning is an ongoing and dynamic process, the Plan will be reviewed on a regular basis in conjunction with the centres’ emergency plans, to ensure it remains aligned with national, provincial and local plans and reflects current knowledge on pandemic influenza.*
Diversity and accessibility
A Handbook for Long Term Care Staff - First Edition
This cultural diversity handbook** (PDF 409KB, 16 pages) provides helpful tips and information on how to support culturally sensitive practices within long-term care centres.
Issues such as communicating health information to diverse clients, and adopting a culturally responsive approach to care are addressed.
The book also provides a comprehensive list of ethno-specific community organizations in Peel.
A Handbook for Long Term Care Staff - Second Edition
The content of this second-edition handbook** (PDF 594KB, 22 pages) has been expanded to include 5 additional barriers - prejudice and discrimination, limited scope of activities, poor communication, limited accessibility features, and lack of resources — that result from more than just cultural aspects.
Each barrier is described, and possible solutions are suggested.
The booklet also provides an updated list of ethno-specific community organizations in Peel.**
