Always working to improve
What is a Best Practice Spotlight Organization (BPSO)?
BPSOs are healthcare and academic organizations selected by the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario (RNAO) to use, test and evaluate its Best Practice Guidelines. Peel Long Term Care was one of four long-term care providers in Ontario selected to be the first to implement the guidelines as a designated BPSO.
What Best Practice Guidelines have been implemented?
With support of the RNAO expert mentorship and consultation on the Best Practice Guidelines and because of the intense work of nurses and the interdisciplinary team members from various roles and departments, Peel Long Term Care has successfully implemented a number of Best Practice Guidelines across all five Long Term Care Centres. Peel Long Term Care will continue to implement and spread Best Practice Guidelines in 2019, to ensure quality and safe resident-centred care for our residents.
The Best Practice Guidelines that Peel Long Term Care has implemented include:
- Assessment and Management of Pain
- Prevention of Falls and Fall Injuries in the Older Adult
- Person- and Family- Centred Care
- Preventing and Addressing Abuse and Neglect of Older Adults
- Intra-Professional Collaborative Practice Among Nurses
In 2019, Peel Long Term Care started the implementation of two new Best Practice Guidelines and they include: Risk Assessment and Prevention of Pressure Ulcers and Assessment and Management of Pressure Injuries for the Interprofessional Team.
At the end of 2020 and into 2021, the five long term care homes will be implementing the most current Best Practice Guideline called Preventing Falls and Reducing Injury from Falls, 2017.
