Programs

An overview of the types of programs offered as part of Adult Day Services.

A wide range of programs are available to Adult Day Services clients.

Recreation programs

We design our recreation programs to support clients' physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and spiritual well-being.

Virtual recreation programs

We offer a variety of virtual recreation programs for older adults online through Zoom and on the phone. Programs are offered in a group setting or one on one. Programs are between 30 and 60 minutes and are available to registered clients and those on our waitlist.

You do not need to be registered for our in-person programs to participate in our virtual programs. Virtual recreation programs are offered at no cost to participants.

Benefits of virtual recreation include:

Enhanced services and personal care assistance

We help clients with activities of daily living including:

Our trained support workers provide personal care assistance.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is available on certain days to those who have consented to participate. The physiotherapy team and the Adult Day Services team work together on programs and treatments geared to maintaining or improving the client’s strength, balance, and flexibility, and in reducing the risk of falls. We also provide a daily exercise program for all clients which is led by our assistants.

Chiropody

We can arrange for clients to access foot care services on site which are provided by a certified foot care practitioner. There is an additional fee for chiropody services.

Dental care

We can arrange for clients to attend dental clinics on site, by referral. This clinic is available through Peel’s Long Term Care.

Optometry

We can arrange for clients to attend optometry clinics onsite. There may be fees associated with optometry.

Salon and barber services

Salon and barber services are available at various times throughout the week. There is an additional cost for salon and barber services. To make an appointment, speak to the Adult Day Services staff at your location.

Bathing

In a safe and accessible shower room, clients get help from support workers with bathing or showering, basic nail care, and personal grooming. Clients who are interested in this service can contact the supervisor.

Immunization for seasonal flu

The flu can spread easily where people gather. This is especially concerning because older adults may have weakened immune systems. We encourage clients to get their flu shots each year. We offer flu clinics at all our Adult Day Services locations to make it easier to avoid the flu.

If clients have received a flu shot in the community through their pharmacy, family doctor, or any other location, you will be asked to provide copy of the immunization record to the Adult Day Services supervisor.

Dietitian services

These services are offered as part of our regular program activities. They do not require an additional fee.

Meals and snacks

We provide a nutritious meal and snacks to all clients. We can assist during mealtimes if required. Therapeutic diets are available to accommodate dietary needs (ex. thickened fluids, minced food, etc.)

Telephone Companion Program

The Telephone Companion Program is a free service to support older adults experiencing feelings of isolation and loneliness. Trained volunteers make friendly check-in phone calls to older adults in Peel to provide engagement and stimulation through social conversations.

Volunteers are matched with clients of similar interests or backgrounds, so they can have fun and meaningful conversations.

Peel’s Community Support Services and Volunteer Resources team offer this program.

If your loved one or you could benefit from these weekly phone calls, email adultdayservices@peelregion.ca or call Mabel Oppong-Agyei at 437-236-5843 for further information.

Caregiver support

Caregivers often struggle with balancing the daily tasks of caring for their loved one while managing the responsibilities in meeting the needs of their family. In collaboration with Adult Day Services team members and other health care professionals, they will help deliver or promote:

To meet or speak with the social worker, speak with an Adult Day Services staff to make a referral, or contact the social worker directly. Find Adult Day Services staff contacts.
