World Town Planning Day is celebrated in over 30 countries. The goal is to recognize and promote the role of planning in creating liveable communities. World Town Planning Day draws attention to the aims, objectives and progress of urban and regional planning. The day highlights the role planning has had in regional development, environmental protection, sustainable economic growth and the quality of life of people all over the world. The day offers planners with an opportunity to promote the profession and increase awareness to planning issues and initiatives not only with the profession, but also among other professions and the general public.

Planners integrate the goals of sustainable development, good governance and economic viability to improve the human environment. The successes and contributions of planners are celebrated. World Town Planning Day offers opportunities to highlight the future of the profession as well.
