Paramedics Lead Lifeguards Through Mock Emergencies

If you happened to see a young man appearing to drown in Professor’s Lake on Aug. 18, there was no need to panic. The “victim” was simply taking part in a simulation exercise to reinforce how lifeguards and paramedics can work together in emergency situations.

Organized by paramedic and former lifeguard Michael-Jon Braaksma. the purpose of this first-time event, entitled Lifesaving in Motion, was to let lifeguards showcase their skills, and to ensure they understand their role when paramedics arrive on scene.

Equally important was for paramedics to learn what a lifeguard can do as their skillset is much broader now than it was a generation ago.

Lifesaving in Motion is a perfect example of how Peel paramedics are living the Region’s working with you brand. The success of this inaugural event has both groups eager for more opportunities to collaborate in the upcoming year. To learn more, contact Michael-Jon at Michael-Jon.Braaksma@peelregion.ca.
