MacKenzie Art Gallery head curator, Timothy Long to give guest lecture at Peel Art Gallery, Museum and Archives (PAMA)

Brampton, ON (April 2, 2019): PAMA is pleased to welcome Timothy Long, head curator at the MacKenzie Art Gallery in Saskatchewan. Long will give a guest lecture on Ronald Bloore: The Art of Provocation, Sunday, April 7 from 2 – 3 p.m.
As Director of the MacKenzie Art Gallery from 1958 to 1966, Ronald Bloore stirred controversy at every turn. Whether inventing a fictional artist, including his own works in the shows he curates, or declaring art of the Renaissance to be misguided, Bloore upset expectations and sparked debate. In the process he put Regina's fledgling art scene on the map nationally and internationally, articulating a defiantly Canadian vision of modern art. Admission is free to this event and for the month of April in Celebration of Sikh Heritage Month, sponsored by the Sikh Foundation of Canada.
Timothy Long has over twenty-five years of curatorial experience at the MacKenzie Art Gallery where he has been Head Curator since 2001 and an Adjunct Professor at the University of Regina since 2005.
His first introduction to Ronald Bloore came soon after his hiring at The MacKenzie when he was tasked with preparing a chapter for the history of the gallery detailing the collecting activities of previous directors. Since then he has curated and coordinated a number of exhibitions which have helped write the history of art in Saskatchewan and Canada, including the retrospective of Bloore’s colleague, Arthur F. McKay, and, in 2007, just two years before his death, a survey of Ronald Bloore’s later paintings.
