Going to Great Heights to Protect Peel Trees
City of Mississauga's aerial spray program to fight infestation
To help protect Mississauga's tree canopy from an infestation of fall cankerworm and gypsy moth, the City will use low-flying helicopters to deliver an aerial spray treatment. This action is necessary to protect Mississauga's urban tree canopy, which brings health, environmental, and ecological benefits to our communities.
Spraying will occur between April 23 - June10 in Mississauga Wards 1, 2, 6, 7, 8 and 11. Activity will take place between 5 a.m. - 7:30 a.m. to minimize disruption to residents. Precise dates will be determined based on weather and pest conditions, which are being monitored closely to ensure treatment will be effective.
The treatment is not harmful to humans and all necessary safety precautions are being taken. For questions call 3-1-1 or visit mississauga.ca/2018spray, where you can sign up for email alerts.
