The Region of Peel is taking steps to expand access to this potentially lifesaving drug
Region of Peel now provides take-home kits that include the drug naloxone. Naloxone temporarily blocks the effects of opioids such as oxycodone, morphine, fentanyl and heroin, with the goal of reversing overdoses. The move widens the availability of naloxone in Peel, which is also available at many pharmacies throughout the region.
When used correctly, naloxone can save the life of someone experiencing an opioid overdose.
Opioid users and anyone concerned about a friend or family member using opioids can get naloxone kits from the Peel Works Needle Exchange Program Mobile Van by calling 647-225-1623. The kits contain the intra-nasal form of naloxone, Narcan®, along with instructions and other supporting materials.
Everyone who gets a naloxone kit from Peel Public Health also receives training from staff on how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose, including how to give Narcan®, perform chest compressions, and the importance of calling 911.
To obtain a free naloxone kit call Peel Works Needle Exchange Program (PWNEP) Mobile Van: 647-225-1623.
